# A Convert alternative with flat pricing and unlimited visitors

Privacy-first experimentation with published, usage-based pricing. Looking for a Convert alternative? Convert publishes every price and meters each plan on monthly tested users, starting at $299 a month billed annually. Otter charges $39 to $149 a month by project count, with unlimited visitors and tests. Here is how the two compare on price, features and privacy.

## About Convert

Convert Experiences, made by Convert Insights Inc., is an A/B testing and personalization platform founded in 2009 by Dennis van der Heijden and Claudiu Rogoveanu. It raised a seed round in 2012 and says it has been profitable and bootstrapped since. Convert sells a broad toolkit to e-commerce teams, CRO agencies and developers: A/B, split URL, multivariate, multipage and full-stack tests, Shopify price testing and built-in heatmaps, with a privacy-first pitch and a price list it publishes in full.

## Which should you pick?

**Choose Otter if:**

- You want one flat bill: $39, $79 or $149 a month by project count, with unlimited visitors and no overage
- You want to run as many tests at once as you like, without Growth's limit of 5 active experiences per project
- You want multi-armed bandit tests on the entry plan; Convert keeps them for Pro and above
- You run WordPress and want to split-test whole themes, not just page elements
- You want a lighter tag: Otter's SDK is about 32 KB gzipped and loads async with built-in anti-flicker

**Choose Convert if:**

- You need multivariate, multipage or full-stack tests, with feature flags and SDKs for iOS, Android, PHP, Python or Ruby
- You want to test prices, shipping or themes on Shopify through a native app
- Your procurement asks for ISO 27001 and SOC 2 Type 2 reports, or for Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control support
- You want heatmaps and frustration-triggered session recordings included with your testing plan
- You want sequential testing so results can be monitored as they come in

## Convert pricing in 2026

Convert publishes every price. Plans are metered on monthly tested users: visitors bucketed into at least one experiment, counted once a month. The bill steps up with each traffic band, and overage is charged unless you switch it off.

## Convert pricing compared with a flat bill

Convert deserves credit for publishing everything: every plan, every traffic band from 100K to 2M tested users, monthly and annual prices, and the overage rate. Its meter is the monthly tested user, a visitor bucketed into at least one experiment, counted once a month however many tests they enter. Visitors to pages you don't test don't count. Growth costs $299 a month billed annually ($399 monthly) at 100K tested users, $560 a month at 250K and $1,050 at 500K, and it isn't sold above 750K. Pro, which adds multivariate, full-stack and bandit testing, runs from $420 a month at 100K to $2,590 at 1M (annual prices, checked October 11, 2026).

Otter prices by project instead: $39 a month for one project, $79 for five and $149 for unlimited, with unlimited visitors and unlimited tests on every plan. A store testing 250,000 visitors a month pays Convert $6,720 a year on Growth and Otter $468 a year on Starter, billed monthly (computed from published prices). The gap widens as traffic grows, because Otter's price never moves with traffic. Every plan is listed on our [pricing page](https://www.otterab.com/pricing).

Convert's limits sit in two places a growing team will notice. Growth allows five active experiences and 30 active goals per project, and overage is billed at $399 per extra 100K tested users. You can switch over-quota charges off, and Convert alerts you at 90% and 100% of quota. Otter has no test cap and no overage to manage.

## What Convert does that Otter doesn't

Convert is the broader testing product. Its Pro and Enterprise plans add multivariate and multipage tests, full-stack experiments with feature flags, and SDKs for JavaScript, Android, iOS, PHP, Python and Ruby with shared bucketing. Otter runs only in the browser: it has no feature flags, no server-side or mobile SDKs and no factorial multivariate tests. If you need to test a pricing algorithm or a mobile onboarding flow, Convert can and Otter can't.

On Shopify, Convert has a native app that installs automatically and can test prices through checkout, plus shipping and theme tests. Otter installs on Shopify with a theme snippet and a generated Custom Pixel that reports purchases and revenue in opt-out consent mode. It can change what a product page shows, but not the price Shopify charges, and it can't run on checkout. Our [Shopify A/B testing guide](https://www.otterab.com/ab-testing/shopify) covers what Otter can test there.

Convert also bundles behavior data. Native heatmaps and Convert Signals, which records sessions when visitors show frustration, are included and don't use tested-user quota. Otter has no heatmaps or recordings, so teams that want them pair Otter with a separate behavior analytics tool. Convert also lists more than 90 integrations, including Adobe Analytics, Mixpanel, Amplitude, Segment and Hotjar. Otter connects to GA4, Google Tag Manager's dataLayer, Slack and signed webhooks, plus its REST API and MCP server.

## Privacy and compliance

Privacy is where Convert leads. It runs on EU servers in Frankfurt on every plan, sets only first-party cookies with a six-month lifetime, can delay bucketing or tracking until consent, honors Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control, and offers a cookieless bring-your-own-ID option. It holds ISO 27001 and SOC 2 Type 2 certifications and supports HIPAA use cases. If your procurement team asks for those reports, Convert has them.

Otter covers the consent essentials. Its opt-in mode keeps Otter dormant, with no cookie and no request, until the visitor agrees, and it reads consent from Cookiebot, OneTrust, CookieYes, Complianz, iubenda, Usercentrics and Google Consent Mode. You can require consent only from visitors in the EEA and UK, set a data retention window per project, and optionally truncate IP addresses before geo lookup. Otter is hosted in the EU on dedicated servers in Finland. It does not read Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signals, so if those are requirements, Convert fits better.

## Statistics, GA4 and revenue

Both tools analyze tests with frequentist or Bayesian statistics, and both check for sample ratio mismatch. Convert offers more options: one- or two-tailed tests, Bonferroni or Šidák corrections, Bayesian risk and expected uplift, and sequential testing on Pro and Enterprise. Otter's manual splits use a two-proportion z-test (Fisher's exact test for small samples) or Bayesian chance to beat the original, at an 80, 90, 95 or 99% threshold, with the bar raised automatically (Bonferroni) when a test has several variants. Otter has no sequential testing; its sample size and duration estimates are built for fixed-horizon frequentist tests.

On bandits the advantage runs the other way. Otter includes a multi-armed bandit on every plan: after a 50-visitor warmup per variant, the leader gets 80% of new traffic and the rest is spread for exploration, with weights refreshed every 5 minutes. Bandit tests use Bayesian reporting automatically. Convert's bandits offer Thompson sampling, epsilon-greedy and UCB, but only from the Pro plan.

GA4 works in both directions in both tools. Convert sends exposure events to GA4, can create a GA4 audience for each variation, and imports GA4 goals and GA4 revenue into its reports. Otter sends impressions, conversions and revenue to GA4 and the GTM dataLayer, and can use a GA4 event as a test goal once you connect GA4 and register two custom dimensions; those results follow GA4's own processing delay. For revenue, Otter reports total revenue, revenue per visitor and average order value for each variant, converting multiple currencies into one reporting currency.

## When Otter is the better Convert alternative

Otter fits teams whose testing happens in the browser: landing pages, product pages, headlines, offers, and redirects between page versions. For that work, the differences that matter are cost, test limits and page weight. Otter's SDK is about 32 KB gzipped and loads async, hiding the page until variants apply, with a 3-second failsafe. Convert's FAQ puts its snippet at 93 KB gzipped at baseline, though other Convert pages give 50 to 60 KB, and it loads synchronously by default to prevent flicker, with an async option.

Otter also runs WordPress whole-theme tests through its plugin, which reports WooCommerce revenue too, and like Convert it gives your AI tools a hosted MCP server. Switching is mostly mechanical: install the Otter snippet, rebuild live tests in the visual editor or through the MCP server, let running Convert experiences finish, then remove Convert's snippet. Convert keeps data for three months after a monthly plan is cancelled, so export what you need first.

## The bottom line

Convert is a strong, fairly priced choice for teams that need breadth: multivariate, multipage and full-stack testing, Shopify price tests, included heatmaps, and a privacy and compliance record few vendors match. Its prices are public, and its 15-day trial needs no card.

Otter is the cheaper and simpler choice when your tests run in the browser. It costs $39 to $149 a month however many visitors you test, runs unlimited tests and bandits on every plan, and ships a lighter tag. If you're weighing more vendors, our guide to [A/B testing tools](https://www.otterab.com/ab-testing-tools) and the [VWO comparison](https://www.otterab.com/compare/vwo) cover the other common shortlists.

Pick Convert if you need server-side tests, feature flags or certified compliance. Pick Otter if you want website A/B testing on a bill that doesn't grow with your traffic.

## Frequently asked questions

### How much does Convert cost?

Convert's Growth plan costs $299 a month billed annually, or $399 billed monthly, for 100,000 monthly tested users, rising to $560 a month (annual) at 250,000. Pro starts at $420 a month annually or $599 monthly and reaches $2,590 a month at one million tested users. Enterprise is priced on request from one million tested users a month. Prices were checked on Convert's pricing page on October 11, 2026 and exclude VAT.

### Does Convert have a free plan?

No. Convert has no free plan, but it offers a 15-day free trial with the full feature set of the plan you pick, no credit card, and nothing billed automatically when it ends. Otter has no free plan either. Its 14-day trial also needs no credit card, and paid plans start at $39 a month with unlimited visitors.

### What is a monthly tested user in Convert?

A monthly tested user is a unique visitor who is bucketed into at least one Convert experiment during the month. Each visitor counts once, however many experiments they enter, and visitors to pages you aren't testing don't count. Your plan includes a quota of tested users, and Convert charges overage beyond it unless you switch over-quota charges off.

### Is Otter cheaper than Convert?

At every traffic level we checked, yes. Convert's cheapest plan is $299 a month billed annually for 100,000 tested users. Otter's Starter plan is $39 a month for one project with unlimited visitors, and Scale is $149 a month for unlimited projects. Convert includes features Otter lacks, such as heatmaps, multivariate tests and feature flags, so compare on the features you will actually use.

### Can Otter replace Convert?

For browser-based A/B/n tests, split URL tests, targeted personalization, revenue tracking and GA4 goals, yes. Otter can't replace Convert's multivariate, multipage or full-stack tests, its feature flags and mobile SDKs, its Shopify price testing, or its heatmaps and session recordings. If you rely on any of those, keep Convert, or plan to cover that work with another tool.

### Do Convert and Otter work with GA4?

Both work with GA4 in two directions. Convert sends exposure events to GA4, can create GA4 audiences per variation, and imports GA4 goals and revenue into its reports. Otter sends impressions, conversions and revenue to GA4 and the GTM dataLayer, and can use a GA4 event as an experiment goal once you connect GA4 and register two custom dimensions.

### Does Convert host data in the EU?

Yes. Convert says every plan uses EU servers in Frankfurt, sets only first-party cookies, supports consent-gated bucketing, and honors Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control. It also holds ISO 27001 and SOC 2 Type 2 certifications. Otter is hosted in the EU on dedicated servers in Finland, and its opt-in consent mode keeps it dormant until a visitor agrees.
