There are three ways into your Otter account: your **email and password**, your **Google account**, or a **passkey**. Passkeys are the newer, safer option — you sign in with your fingerprint, face, or device PIN instead of typing anything. You can use whichever you like, and you can set up more than one. ## Three ways to sign in ### Email & password Type your email and password on the sign-in page. Passwords need to be at least 8 characters — a mix of letters, numbers, and symbols is stronger. ### Google Click **Continue with Google** and pick your Google account. No separate Otter password to manage — handy if you already live in Google. ### Passkey Click **Sign in with passkey** and confirm with your fingerprint, face, or PIN. Nothing to type, nothing to remember, and nothing that can leak in a data breach. ## Add a passkey 1. **Open your Profile settings.** Sign in, then go to your user settings — the **Profile** page. 2. **Add a passkey and name it.** Choose to add a passkey and give it a friendly name like "Work laptop" so you remember which device it's for. 3. **Confirm on your device.** Follow your device's prompt — a fingerprint, face scan, or PIN. The passkey is saved, and you can now use **Sign in with passkey** next time. Add one passkey per device you use, so you can always get in. To remove one, return to the Profile page and remove it — after that it can no longer sign you in. ## Forgot your password? 1. **Click "Forgot password?"** It's right below the sign-in form. 2. **Enter your email.** Use the address you signed up with. There's no password to remember, and nothing that can be guessed or stolen in a leak. It's the most secure way to protect your Otter account. ### How do I add a passkey? Sign in, open your user settings (the Profile page), and choose to add a passkey. That's it; you can now use it to sign in. ### How do I sign in with my passkey next time? You won't need to type your email or password. ### Can I add more than one passkey? Yes — add one for each device you use (your laptop, your phone, and so on). That way you can always get in from whatever you have to hand. Give each a clear name so the list is easy to manage. ### How do I remove a passkey? On the same Profile page where you added it, remove the passkey you no longer want. Once removed, it can't be used to sign in anymore — do this if you lose a device or stop using one. As long as you still know your password (or have another passkey), you'll keep your access. ### I forgot my password — what do I do? On the sign-in page, click "Forgot password?" Enter the email address you signed up with and we'll send you a link to set a new password. Open the link, choose a new password, and you're back in. (If you've set up a passkey, you can also just sign in with that instead.) ### Are there any password rules? Your password needs to be at least 8 characters. A mix of letters, numbers, and symbols makes it stronger. Even better, add a passkey — then a strong password matters less because you can sign in without typing one. ### Does a passkey replace my password? Think of it as an extra, easier way in rather than a replacement. Your password still works, and so does any passkey you've added — you can use whichever is handier at the time.
